Thanks for visiting . . . and what is Berkshire MakerKids?
It's an after school program for kids in our Southern Berkshire schools who are interested in creating–in having fun–using their hands to make cool things that spring from their imagination and fulfill their passions.
The program began in January 2014 under the leadership of Paul O'Brien and Tim Newman. In 2016 Flying Cloud Institute took over the administration of the program. Makerspace activities will recommence in January of 2017.
This website will continue to serve as an introduction to the MakerKids program for interested visitors from our Southern Berkshire community, and elsewhere, who are not familiar with the program and want to know more about making in general and what our kids are doing in the makespace. For those folks, start by looking at the Making menu tab.
Perhaps more importantly, it is intended to serve as the principal information resource for our active MakerKids and their parents. Toward that end, there are several key menu categories on the website that are intended for active MakeKid participants.
First is the Our Weekly Blog, it's where you would look to read about the projects we have been working on and to see pictures of that activity. MakerKid parents will be expecially interested in this.
Second is the MakerKIds Project Info tab; this is where we publish descriptions, plans, videos. and so on for upcoming projects; it's where MakerKids should go to learn the details of upcoming projects so they are prepared for our sessions.
Finally, MakerKids Links are web links to relevant websites that generally do not pertain to individual project topics we're working on, but that we think reveal interesting aspects of making in gnereal and STEM. So check out the Links page!
We want to hear from you too! MakerKids, parents, and community members, if you have questions or suggestions please give us a shout. Real communication has to be two-way. For those of you who like the idea of making and want to be involved but are not SBRSD students, it’s our intention–once the program is able to serve students at all grade levels–to open it to adult members of our community.

As time goes by, please visit us again and again. We will be adding new images and stories regularly about our MakerKids and what they are making: photos, artwork and video that illustrate the world of making as interpreted by the Berkshire MakerKids. It's going to be really great.
